What Is the Canadian Grand Prix?

The Canadian Grand Prix is a yearly auto racing event that has existed since the 1960s under the umbrella of Formula One.

You cannot undermine its popularity, as it was the third most-watched event in 2005, with only the Super Bowl and the UEFA Champions League ahead.

Here is how the Canadian Grand Prix 2005 went.

This event was being rotated between the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and Circuit Mont -Tremblant for a while before settling for the former. However, in 1978, the Canadian Grand Prix moved to Circuit Gillen Villeneuve in Montreal, where this beautiful event is still.

The Canadian Grand Prix has happened each year since its inception, missing out only in 1987 and 2009. COVID-19 disrupted the tournament in 2020 and 2021 before returning to the stage in its latest edition in June 2022. The race usually lasts three days, mostly between Fridays and Sundays. Practice begins on Friday to Saturday, with the qualifying event held on the same Saturday to determine their position on the race track for the main event on Sunday.

Max Verstappen won the latest edition on June 19, 2022, his first-ever Canadian Grand Prix, ousting Ferrari's Carlos Sains and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who made the podium as second and third, respectively, in over 70 laps of the 4.361 (14 turns) Kilometer Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Meanwhile, German racer Micheal Schumacher and British racer Lewis Hamilton hold the F1 Canadian Grand Prix record, winning seven apiece. Also, regarding the constructor, Ferrari has the most records with 14 wins, just one ahead of McLaren with 13.

What Does the Future of the F1 Canadian Grand Prix Hold?

The F1 Canadian Grand Prix holds so much for the fans, sponsors, drivers, and teams as it continues to grow in every aspect. After the emergence of COVID, which disrupted the 2020 and 2021 editions, the Canadian Grand Prix signed a contract extension until 2031 to keep the race under the Formula 1 umbrella. This deal will see the renovation of aging facilities at the Gille Villeneuve and help promote the Nation as one of the top Grand Prix establishments.

Additionally, its impact on the economy, enablement of tourists and tourism, and the international media coverage of this event must be addressed. Although there have been a few setbacks, this sport continues to develop and rake in millions, to the delight of the Nation and the sport in general. The future of the F1 Canadian Grand Prix looks promising and shows that it can even be more extensive than it is presently.
